Hello, everybody. John Shearer here. Let me share the screen and we’ll get right into this next piece. These are some personal outcomes that we have found over the years. People reported three themes about what they experienced having a greater sense of as a result of being in the LDI. Let me lay these out for you. There are three, and they’re very important. The first one is a greater sense of purpose. This means that you have a sense that you’re on a path, meaning from moment to moment, from day to day, from meeting to meeting, from call to call. What happens on that path is nurturing to your soul. It’s feeding you. It’s actually coming from the best of who you are and coming back to feed you in some way. It doesn’t empty you; it fills you. You’re moved and inspired by what’s happening. In addition, what you’re doing is contributing to the people around you. It’s a contribution to the people in the room, the person on the other end of the conversation, whoever’s on the other side of you. It’s also in alignment with what is being called for by life, by the team, by the project, by the relationship, by the firm, by the world. So a greater sense of purpose means nurturing who you are, contributing to other people, and aligning with what’s being called for by the larger context. Second, people reported having a greater sense of personal power, and this is a different kind of power.
David White, the wonderful American poet, says the ego’s goal is to have power over what happens to you. The soul’s goal is to have power through what happens to you, whatever that may be. So it’s not about micromanaging. It’s not about trying to make sure that certain things don’t happen. It’s more about having that sense of not being afraid to go into the moment and have things be the way they are because I’m going to be able to move through this with a sense of personal well-being. Things that I don’t like are not such a big threat to me. I don’t have to try to control everything so that I’m not afraid. Fear is much less important because I have a greater sense of peace, and this is a result. Let me go back. This is a result of engaging the world from that place inside, which is where the highest and best of who we are lives. When we do that, peace is a natural result. It means we don’t have to try so hard, worry so much, or try to manipulate, control, impress, sell, or fix whatever it is we think we need. So LDI results in a greater sense of purpose, power, and peace. I’m looking forward to you having a chance to be in the circle when that happens for you.
